6.4 engine going away???

Was just told by my dealership that they were told to stop taking orders with the 6.4 engine and no more Grand Wagoneers will be made that way. They will switch to the V6 instead. This was communicated to them this last Saturday.

V6? Not the inline 6 that's been in the news?

I could have misunderstood.
No worries, and thanks for even mentioning it here. FCA is so illusive in regards to GW powertrain. They introduced it with a plugin hybrid configuration then produced it with the 6.4L. So it is quite interesting that folks are now being told to standby when placing new orders because here comes another change with the powertrain setup.

It has been known for awhile that the inline turbo 6 would show up first in the Grand Wagoneer; the high output version is suppose to be over 500 horsepower; I had thought that this new engine would be an option for Grand Wagoneer with the V8 engine remaining as standard, but perhaps Stellantis is no longer offering the Hemi.

They said no more hemi for sure due to some emissions rule. I am ignorant on that

I'm going to buy a grand wagoneer series 3 Saturday, should I wait for this engine instead? Seems like it will make more power but be slightly less thirsty, however I do love displacement.

This is very interesting. I wonder how this will play out for those of us who have already ordered but are awaiting production. I would think we'd all be good; I believe the powertrain and options are already tied to the VIN when assigned and locked in but who knows these days.

My Grand Wagoneer is replacing my Ram 1500 Limited. It was between the Lincoln Navigator and Grand Wagoneer for me and one of the big reasons I went with the latter was because of the 6.4L Hemi V8. All the turbos in the world don't replace the sound of a meaty V8 - plus I tow quite a bit and really would prefer a big, naturally aspirated engine. Besides, they aren't even announcing any specs on the I6 until the New York Auto Show which isn't until mid-April. Are we supposed to blindly be okay ordering with no details?

It's comical to me when people whine about the fuel economy of the 6.4L Hemi. I'm spending $110k on a vehicle, in no world am I losing sleep over 14 MPG versus 18 MPG versus 20 MPG, etc. I'd argue the big V8 will produce more SMILES per gallon than the others 😉

If it helps at all, I took delivery yesterday of a GW Obsidian and it has the 6.4. It arrived at the dealer the same day I bought it (arrived at the train station 2/14) and while I don't know the exact build date, I believe it would be in the 2-3 weeks prior. The 392 is a perfect match for this vehicle IMO. I previously owned a 2021 Tahoe High Country with the 6.2L and the difference in feel is significantly more than the difference on paper. Interior-wise, the GW is in a whole different class. Much closer to my Range Rover than the Tahoe or Escalade
