WiFi Issues

I had a issue with my Wagoneer WiFi hotspot today, and thought I would share how to fix it. So, the WiFi in the Grand Wagoneer would show up and connect, just without an internet connection. After fiddling around myself for about a 1/2 hour I finally called ATT to see if they had any suggestions. The person indicated it was a know issues for Jeep and ATT, but we could try a couple things first that have fixed the issue for others, and if they did not work I would have to take it in to the dealership.

Long story short, about 35 minutes, I just turned off the vehicle WiFi, then changed the name of the vehicles WiFi spot and the password, shut the vehicle off, and after about 10 minutes it worked again. I found the issue out because we went to use the two back seat TVs and they did not work. They said there was some sort of update Jeep did that caused the issue. So, all is well in the end and hopefully if anyone else has this issue it will save them some time from having to call ATT to get a fix.

I just got off the phone with AT&T customer service on WiFi issues and logging in at the AT&T website to check my current data usage from my newly established account.

After 27 minutes on the phone later, it was confirmed by the AT&T rep that there was a system-wide software issue with AT&T/FCA, Ram, Jeep, etc., along with the WiFi and the FCA Wagoneer app not updating. At the end of our conversation, she read a scripted response to me from AT&T.

I asked when both companies would resolve this? She said on her end by the end of May. She offered me extra 30 days of unlimited WiFi when this is fixed.
I said OK, sure, I'll take it, and I'll call back and check-in May to see if it's been resolved.

A trouble ticket was issued too, and a call back is scheduled for tomorrow to see if they fixed my login with AT&T after signing up for service and paying by CC.
In short, my info, including the VIN and how much data I used, is not listed online on my end, but on her end, she sees me and what I have.

My suggestion is to call AT&T customer svcs at 1.866.595.1330 or AT&T Connected Car cust svcs at 866-595-1222 after signing up or extending data usage after the trial period ends to get your extra free month of service or some free extra gigs of data.

Thanks for the update and recommendation.

Is there any way to get the SP shifted to Verizon or another carrier instead of being locked into having AT&T be the transport for our GWs? Any insight into it being a SIM card based system (which I suspect)? I understand the deals made for initial servicing between SPs and vehicle manufacturers, however I wonder why this wouldn't allow an equivalent of an Unlocked RF unit. 😏

I saw something from T Mobil and it plugs into data port that I think the dealership uses. I'll check later and get back shortly to you.😉

This is the T-Mobil plugin - https://obd-guide.cloud.sdp.prod.iot.sprint.com/#/home.
It plugs into the OBD-II port. However, I'm not sure if it will work on our vehicle. Most likely I think it would be a major upgrade in software integration.

I read in other forum groups it's a real pain to set up, and that's if you can get it up and running.

As for Verizon- they are not offering anything at this time.

IMHO for an advanced vehicle that we have, it's somewhat backward in WiFi and I’m not even sure of WiFi speed. I need to try some diagnostic testing for that.
The designers should have had an option for us to choose when ordering and which carrier to pick from, AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobil, etc just like a new cell phone purchase with an E-sims card. Maybe they will in the future. In 2023 or 2024, higher-end vehicles will have 5G. 5G is most likely to be the lower end of the spectrum but it will be faster than 4G speed.

I did find what I think is where the WiFi modem is. In the engine compartment on the driverside, just behind the grill.
Updated 4/17 checked again engine compartment I’m wrong as to the location. The hunt begins.

That's a start, finding the modem. 😁 Time to dig into it, see what options are possible outside of direct from MOPAR.
