Wagoneer Series I

Hey gang. New here and learning more about the Wagoneer. My mother is in the market and we have been a GM family as long as I (28) have been alive. But, Ram was able to sway me with the incredible 1500 and with all the lifter issues the new Tahoe/Yukon are having, I have convinced her to take a hard look at the Wagoneer. I've been following the FB pages and I know there's quite a few technical glitches happening, but those don't worry me much in the days of over-the-air updates. Seems like a lot of them are being addressed already and it sure beats being stranded on the side of the road in need of a new motor.

I've been looking through trims and packages and I think the WSII and WSIII mostly make sense with a few omissions. For example; heated rear seats should be standard at this price point. Period. That was a big surprise along with not allowing the sunroof to be a standalone option. I also think it's strange that the vast majority of trucks I see on lots have a rear bench seat instead of the captain chairs. But I checked one out at the dealer this weekend and I love what I see. Initial build quality seems to be really, really high which is no surprise after experiencing my new Ram. Everything you touch feels like it belongs in a premium vehicle.

My biggest questions is this; what's the deal with the WSI? No salesman I've talked to can tell me anything about it and I don't see any in inventory anywhere in the country. I see it was newly added to the Build and Price feature within the last week or two and I've been playing around with it. I'm shocked at the price difference between it and a WSII or WSIII, all while maintaining most of the same content. From what I can tell, the only major options you can't get on the WSI is the Quadra Lift system and rear captain chairs. But you can still get all the big ticket items - heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, all infotainment features, 360 surround camera, sunroof, adaptive cruise, etc. If I build one for mom with all the options she would want, which is all of them except the off road package, it comes out to $71k. If I want the same vehicle in WSII trim, it will cost at least $81k just to get the same options (although I realize the WSII packages would include Quadra Lift). I know the leather on the seats isn't Nappa but surely that and air suspension isn't worth 10k? Does anyone here have any insight? This seems to be the way to go to get the most value unless I'm missing something major.

Make sure your Mom is ok with manual folding exterior mirrors; none of the Wagoneer trims have power folding mirrors, only manual folding and this is a fraction of an inch wider than a Ram truck. Only the Grand Wagoneer trims have power folding mirrors.

You may want to compare loading up the Wagoneer 1 versus the GW 1. In the GW1 you not only get the power mirrors for your mom but you get the headlights that turn as you turn the wheel, Fog Lamps that do the same, Automatic Parking Assist, Electronic Brake Hold, Night Vision Assist, 20" wheels for a bit smoother ride for her, the roof rack crossbars for you to load for her when she needs it, ;) Power deployed running boards, the vehicle drops down for her to get in easier using those running boards, Napa leather seats with massage, extra lighting inside to see, 20 way adjustment for the Driver Seat, Power Headrests for the front seats, 12" screen up front instead of 10 so she can see it easier, upscale sound system, a safe in the front console for her, 1 touch window up/down, digital rear view mirror for when she's backing up, interior assist handles and I could go on. That price difference and all the extras are really something to consider. Thing to make it even safer to drive for your mom.

Use the Build comparison function on the website, you'll see so much more beyond what I've just finished reading/typing here. It's why I jumped into the GW line myself when I ordered. If you haven't used that site yet (you probably have), here it is. The All-New Grand Wagoneer - Jeep®
You can compare both models at that link, regular and grand.

Well a loaded up WSI is at least 20k cheaper than a GWSI so that's not a very fair comparison lol. That's a huge jump.

15K 😄

I was just thinking of all the safety things is all. It is a bit of a jump no doubt, I didn't want to presume anything so I looked for the lowest model with power folding mirrors and other safety factors for your Mom.

They have missed the boat on the power mirrors, and a few other things that are 'table stakes' at these price points. One forum member had an interesting idea, order the power mirror replacement parts and install them. I guess they are good at modifying vehicles. I'd have to get a quote from a shop to do it, but who knows how much it would cost to do that to a new vehicle.

Quite a few guys have done this on the Ram forum so I would think it's possible. Probably a tad expensive and time consuming. But most of it should be plug-n-play.

Power folding mirrors aren't important to her other than fitting on our garage. My Ram just fits with the mirrors out but I know the Wagoneer is a tad wider. So we'll see.
