To Wagoneer or not...

Hi all,
Want to introduce myself as I am interested in purchasing a Wagoneer series II or 1 depending on how ordering goes.
This forum has made me hesitant however. Need an additional vehicle kind of soon though so I might take the gamble.
The Grand Cherokee L and this both have their issues as expected with first year models
They aren't very different in price yet this is a much nicer vehicle so can someone who considered both say why they chose this? Or if they regret it why?
I currently have a '21 Wrangler Willys and am very impressed with it which is why I am even considering another Jeep vehicle.
If you are happy with your Wagoneer is there anything you wish you had gotten or could live without?
Thank you all in advance.

You should test drive one first. If you want folding mirrors you will have to go with the GW. They are nice cars, but all new cars are nice. I think the Wagoneer are over priced.
Look at all the large SUV Tahoe, Denali, Navigator. Each one offers something so you have to decide what you want.
The Wagoneer is 4 inches long than the Tahoe. The Tahoe is about 7 K less and comes with folding outside side mirrors.
Later runs of the Wagoneer might come with folding mirrors as a lot of people that bought W's can't believe that for 90 K the mirrors don't fold.
They are Hi tech if that's what you want. The GW comes with a lot of things that the W does not come with. So look into that so you make sure you get what you want.
They do drive nice and are quiet inside and roomy.
Good luck in your search.

I wish I could tell you my opinion of the Wagoneer but I'm still waiting for mine to be built. I've watched nearly every review video out there and test drove what I could find locally (slim pickings around here). We've had two Ram 1500s (both fully loaded, limited trims) and I was blown away by both. FCA/Stellantis has shown they can design and assemble a great car these last few years. And I really think the Ram provided for great underpinnings.

You have to take what you read on here with a grain of salt. People tend to rush to review and post experiences when negative. I wish it weren't like that and it's certainly not true in every instance but I'm sure there are a lot of very satisfied Wagoneer owners out there as well. I've had BMWs (both German and US built models), Fords and Lincolns, a Nissan, a Subie or two, and I've had my share of problems with several of them. Read up on the 2020 Explorer and Aviator release - Ford royally botched it. I had a 2020 Aviator Black Label that was mostly issue free. My point is that every single brand out there is going to have issues, particularly when new. There's only so many test miles and pre-production testers a group of their employees can drive and test before releasing to the public. The first vehicles off the assembly line turn the buyers into beta testers in a sense and this isn't limited to Jeep. Cars are basically computers on wheels these days and you take a chance with every single one of them. Problems are going to happen and there won't always be a rhyme or reason to it. My suggestion is finding a dealer that you like, hopefully one who will stand by you should problems happen. Notice how big of a difference the dealer makes in dealing with some of the horror stories you've surely read on here? While I wish my car would hurry up and be built, I'm glad it's going to be a unit produced after some of the initial bugs have hopefully been resolved at the factory. If you find one on the lot somewhere maybe checkout the build date and keep it in mind.

Definitely find some to sit in and drive. Yes, the mirrors are an issue for many (that's power-folding mirrors by the way; I assume they still are manually foldable). For me it was between the (Grand) Wagoneer and the Navigator as I do tow. I did also checkout the Escalade but literally LOL'd when the sales guy uncomfortably announced I'd need to pay an extra 30k over sticker for the privilege of driving a Sport Platinum. Lincoln and Jeep would at least let me use my corporate discount. I test drove both, back-to-back, and was much more impressed by the Wagoneer. I ordered the Grand Wagoneer and still have yet to actually drive one - only models I could find were Wagoneers. First one I drove was a Series II. When I got back into my Aviator, the Aviator felt really rough in comparison - and it had an air suspension. I feel like the Wagoneer drives much smaller than it actually is. In comparison, the Navigator Black Label that was in the running felt much truck-like to me and not in a good way. Plus, nothing beats a smooth, naturally aspirated V8 in a big SUV in my opinion.

Hopefully soon I'll have some actual, hands-on feedback to report back with!

All first year vehicles will have challenges. Period. Knowing that is a big help in setting your own expectations. Knowing everything is built by humans, they all have challenges, you'll find plenty of problems in all things if you so desire, and even if you don't. :D

Some people buy thinking whatever THEY picked has to be perfect, and then take anything that happens personally as if the universe has something against them. The anonymity of online forums have caused overly hyperbolic retorts, after all, what are the ramifications from online 'people'. You'll see some of those on here too, just know that to those individuals it is more real than their morning coffee. Can't blame them, it's their opinion and it too is valid.

Others want their decisions to be the right one all the time. Defend to the end. Again, their opinion and experiences in life, valid for them as well.

Why keep reading? A bit of experience to help because it's not all about me, that's for sure it is about you. That said you asked, so for my opinion basis: I've been buying vehicles for 40 years plus and I enjoy all the good and bad. Purchased some lemons that left me and my family or passengers on the side of the road before Cell phones, or Lemon laws. Ouch but gee, I'm here and we lived. Bought others that were superb, they eventually were surpased by other vehicles, so I purchased new ones.

I've had a loyalty to a brand when that brand steps up for me at the times it is tough. New vehicle, toughest times. You'll see examples of Stellantis backing their product and that is reflected by a great, independant Dealership owner also doing the same as a Partner to Stellantis. I have also seen Dealers who should never be allowed to sell anything, a member named @James has posts about one such Dealer.

In the end, many different types of vehicles exist because we have many different people with their own tastes. At the time we want to purchase (now per your post), we all look at what's available for us so we get our best return on a depreciating asset. We want to enjoy our hard earned money's worth so I get your smart decision to ask, research and balance all advice. Great move to keep researching, well done.

My decision to buy a GW took me a while, a lot of reading, videos, driving multiple versions of SUVs (GMC, Chevy, Cadillac, Infiniti, Land Rover, etc.) all in the same Luxury market, different versions of each. I hesitated in going for a first year vehicle, I've owned four from different manufacturers, Chevy, Infiniti, Dodge and Pontiac (yeah, they were real). Each experience was different. Stayed a loyal Dodge guy with Durangos, Loved the Pontiac, was disappointed on Chevy, etc. Most interesting: Infiniti. I went through it with Infiniti, bad breaks that had to be recalled/replaced, etc. Yet the Dealership and company were phenomenal, best experience so far. Buying their QX line since 2004. I've posted in the forum what they continued to do years after that initial experience on here, a wonderful surprise and financial deal even the Dealership where I traded it in didn't know about (but were happy also). Why not a new one now? They haven't updated their vehicle since my 2014 and I'm in the market now. Love them, have two currently but still buying the GW. It just happens to fit my current needs, and for me I determined it was the best Luxury available. I also have a mindset I will be using the issue list here in this forum when I pick it up next month (I hope) and the Dealership is ready for me. How do I know? I spoke honestly about it after having made a deal and ordered it. They appreciated my approach (some dealers won't I'm sure), so I am starting with one level of expectation and so is the Dealership. Very important to research the Dealership too. Add to that I also have a second vehicle, so when I need to get someplace for work or any other reason, I'll not be stopped and can make it. I also know Uber, Lyft, true friends and associates have and will continue to be available and helpful. A lot of money, yes, so make your decision for yourself based on your world, not mine. ;)

@coolerbythelake has good advice, know how the company is working through a new brand and check out their packaging by Trim levels. I highly recommend comparing every trim level using Stellantis' online build/compare tool on the Wagoneer site, https://www.jeep.com/wagoneer/grand-wagoneer.html. You can build both Wagoneer and Grand and they give you detailed, very detailed information.

Continue to do what you are now, ask, read through the forum, take all of our opinions in stride, good and bad, and know your Dealership options. I'm lucky as I have so many in my area they are all competing for my business. I check out reputations if I've not worked with them before, and then choose three dealers to start. I could go on however this is already a Tolstoy length post. Suffice it to say, the amount of issues seems big, it is going down rapidly. Ordering may take longer however it is a route that reduces the defects you'll experience given all that Stellantis has already identified and resolved in the factory line. Getting a vehicle off a lot if one fits your desires/needs, it will have a few defects of some sort, regardless of brand chosen. I like all the items in the GW that no other brand has currently. It drives like a smaller vehicle but has so much room, etc. it fits my desires. It is nice to also have honest, real offroad chops. And I don't have to pay Land Rover prices and get less vehicle interior room.

It may or may not end up being right for you and your life, so either way do try to enjoy the search to get what you enjoy, and go into the purchase with a Dealership that has the reputation or that you know will take care of you because, like EVERY brand, something can happen. You'll be glad you did and that buy will be just right for you. Who cares what I or others may think, it's you and your preferences you should enjoy and embrace on the grand adventure! Best wishes and let us all know your decision and why, it helps all of us.

Great post above me, really covers everything.

My experience has been good so far with the GWIII. I wanted a large luxury SUV that I could tow the boat and small travel trailer with. I have some issues with the android auto and phone disconnecting and not reconnecting. The drive is great, the power is good and the interior is fantastic. There isn't another SUV that covered all of my wants. If I wasn't interested in towing I may have opted for the BMW x7 m series. I also like that this is a jeep. It isn't a luxury brand...yet. makes the experience feel more unassuming.

As @Costa said I have had a horrible experience with this dealership, but we really like the Wagoneer, first vehicle that we all like. I anticipated there being problems, but the dealer is making my situation worse. I am hopeful the bugs get worked out, but at least right now I’m getting to miles on a rental instead of my Wagoneer.

I would have been very happy with a top of the line Grand Cherokee, but for me it came down to comfort, cargo, and hauling. I want extra width in the drivers seat and a large cargo space, especially for road trips. The L2 drive assist technologies also helped push me into going the Grand Wagoneer route, assuming they ever enable it.

We have a Wagoneer lll, the car in itself- look and comfort wise, is incredible. It’s sleek, comfortable, and extremely roomy. We fell in love with it for that aspect. It has much to offer and has plenty potential to be great. However, in the 2 months we’ve had it, we’ve driven it for a month. It’s been in the shop with many issues. Those of which they are not even sure of how to fix. Auto start stopped working, seats were having issues, heat seat issues, issues with phone/radio/car play and how it worked, condensation in rear and headlights (which you cannot get), and worst of all, the emergency break issues. At times the car would lock up after being stopped for x time…normally at stop signs and intersections, which is terrifying. Most of these issues are related to the generator. The generator is new, and specific to this car only. It’s what makes this car unique and is the “etworqke” (excuse my spelling) technology it has making it what it such a special car. However, it’s not perfected and it’s causing major issues for those waiting for this specific part. When our dealer went to order it, it was one of two in the entire country. Thankfully it is due to arrive soon, had it been imported, this would have been weeks to months. We are unsure if this part will even be good, or just break shortly after being in use since the first did after a month. We have no clue if the guys even know how to install this part. It will also essentially erase all data saved and we will have the reprogram the car again. Which honestly takes forever, and it’s not a huge issue but it’s an annoyance if this can potentially happen again. You get profiles in the car, and it takes a lot of time to set them. I deeply in my heart now feel we made a huge mistake purchasing this car. We will be taking a huge hit if we decide to trade it in, even if it’s before the year warranty. We were hoping this would be a 10 year car, but if more issue arrive before that one year mark, we will be getting rid of it and into a Yukon like we originally wanted before Wagoneers came out. If you want one, I say wait a year to see the route they take…because right now, I don’t see us having much time in this car for it will be sitting in a shop lot awaiting parts that are not even available. Good luck!
