Liftgate unavailable

So recently, the power liftgate in our Wagoneer S3 has been randomly not working. I'll try to close it using either the foot kick method or by pressing the button in the rear (or even with the key) and the liftgate beeps 3 times and a message on the dash says the liftgate is unavailable - manually operate the liftgate to close it.

Mine is going to the dealer on Monday for the rear differential binding, leak in the headliner, cell phone charger door replacement (broken since day 1), suspension motor grinding and of course - the liftgate issue. I'll update when it's returned.

Noted mine "beeps" but if keys are in the cabin and not on my person - it will NOT deploy the lift gate. Ugh.

you can try a reset, disconnect the battery, then with the key fob, lock and unlock or the drivers master window switch, then I usually hit the button on the overhead console to open and then hit the button on the rear 1/4 trim to close. sometimes yes, sometimes no. but as an engineer told us last week, "there probably a software update for that"

I know that this is an old thread but my Grand Wagoneer series 1 is now having the same issue of the tailgate unavailable issue...or it only opens from the interior or key fob but will not close by either..... anyone found a resolution?

I've not had that issue. When is the last time you had it into the Dealership and pushed them to do all the Service Bulletins? This website might help, it has both Wagoneer and GW TSBs listed, seems like they are keeping it current too vs. the last time I saw the Dealership Service team looking at all the TSBs. https://www.carcomplaints.com/Jeep/Wagoneer/2022/tsbs/ Hope it helps find a solution for your Dealership to fix it properly.
