Auto Emergency Braking (AEB) popping up continously

I might have missed it, but don't recall this one being discussed.

Hopped in the wife's GWIII with her to head to a town about an hour away. Heavy downpour. In the two miles driving out of my development, the forward collision/Auto Emergency Braking (AEB) warning popped up on the screen. Not sure if it was saying there was a collision, or warning the system not working. Turned around and parked it, and made the trip in my new GC SR.

Dealer came and picked it up and fortunately there were codes indicating an issue of some kind (much better than a problem with them flying blind trying to repair). They have a call into FCA to determine how to fix it.

I kind of enjoyed my first 8 minutes driving her GW.

Sounds like the AEB didn't turn itself off by recognizing the rain. To a sensor/system, the rapid signal return acts like a object moving in front of you. With a code they will be able to dig into it for you. Could be as simple as a calibration. Either way the code helps them start the chase to find the issue.

Question: I don't have mine yet, is there a feature to turn down sensitivity or even turn it off for motion assist? My current SUV turns itself off in snow (sensors get blocked), and I can turn it off when I'm heading into storms with heavy downpour.

When I hopped into my GC SR, I was late for a dental appointment an hour away, I was having my wife look through the settings and it looked like via settings there was a low, medium, high sensitivity (might have been near, middle, far), and I believe in settings it could be disabled. Not sure if there was a button.

I was wondering how they normally handled rain. Disabling itself makes the most sense. She said she's had it come on twice before, both on clear days and once she didn't think there was a car that should have set it off, but never the repeated firing, which I attributed to the rain causing. Hopefully it's a quick flash/recalibration of some kind, so she can get her GW back, since until then, she'll be driving my GC.

Your senors might be dirty and give you false warnings. It happens to me on my 2019 Ram 1500. The front is more touchy than the rear ones. Wipe them off with a soft towel soaked in water and that
should clear things up. Every 2 weeks I have to wipe them off.

Don't think it's just dirt. They reproduced it in dry conditions. Cleared the codes, and reproduced and they returned. Also, it's throwing a high voltage code. They've got a case going with FCA/Stellantis. Hopefully, they will get some direction Monday. Hopefully not a part with a long wait time like some have had to endure.

Sounds more like a defective sensor stuck closed. Thanks for keeping us updated, can't wait to see what fixes it!

I was out of the country this week, and just got home, so my wife has been driving my GC SR. Car is still with the dealer. They are working with Stellantis, but so far no solution. We were hit with an ice storm, so dealer was shut down for day and a half, but the GM texted my wife yesterday with that update. I'll reach out to him Monday.

Just closing the loop on this, good news is that it doesn't appear to be a new problem other's need to worry about. They found a ground wire that wasn't secured to the grounding bolt. Once they fixed that, high voltage went away, and they haven't seen the AEB issue again in test driving. We'll get it back tomorrow, and hopefully that was the issue.

Fingers crossed! I wish we could tell if our vehicles were assembled on a Monday or Friday. I could understand someone with a hangover missing a grounding wire then!

After getting word, and a picture, it reminded me that I never checked the fuses on my three new Jeeps, as that also appears to be a recurring problem I read of, fuses not fully seated.

Wow, not cool. BTW, did you see the latest TSB that just came out? Any vehicle prior to 25 Feb 2022 that has any of the powertrain noise, etc. is to get it. They found another item that causes the same symptom after they realized the older fix wasn't working on some vehicles. It is in the Powertrain thread, check it out.

On another note, three new Jeeps and now a GWIII? Should I put you down as a Maybe when asking about Jeep fans? ;) Do let us know how it compares after you've had it a while.

Hadn't seen the new TSB, I'll check it out, thanks.

To be clear, the GWIII is one of the three Jeeps, even if Jeep considers it a different brand. :) Over a three day period, we ordered a GWIII for the wife (replacing Acadia), GC SR for me (replacing a Q7) and a Wrangler JLU, to pull behind the RV (replacing a JKU). Resale was high enough, that I basically swapped payments for the newer cars. Haven't historically done that, but decided to this go around.

Give me a few more months before deciding if I am or am not a Jeep fan!!

Looking forward to your updates! Keep us in the loop on how the latest TSB works out. I also hope you and I become Jeep/Stellantis fans. 😁 Can't wait for my GWIII to arrive.
