What is this mirror doing?

Never moved it, it did this twice. Went dark twice while driving.
It is driven by the light sensor in your internal Rear View mirror. Do you keep it in the camera view or 'normal' rear view position? Additionally it could just be a sensor going bad, plug in to the ODP and get the code, should have something to point you in the right direction.

Always in live camera mode, wife keeps a Fu-k Cancer wrist band around that center mirror. Maybe it moved just enough to block the light sensor? So it is darkening for headlight brightness behind me? Wouldn’t both outside mirrors do it?
Then again if the wrist band is blocking light the mirror would be clearer wouldn’t it, thinking there are no car lights behind me?
Overthinking this, I’ll just drive my damn Ram till she asks me about it.

Agree that either something is blocking it or the light sensor is going bad.

And I did a spit take on the last line of your post. 🤣

Took it in today to have a few things fixed, moved that band around and it darkened and un-darkened, definitely the cause. One thigh bolster on driver seat was not inflating, rear view mirror camera smokey hazy dirty looking (yes I cleaned it), driver‘s headrest would go up/down but not back and forth. Got a Wagoneer II as a loner. Since I am awaiting an L I have been slow on warranty work, not really in any hurry.

Thought it might be, glad you found it and didn't have to just drive the darn RAM. Not that it would be a bad shift... 😁

The mirror does get that dark as I'm sure you now see. Since it happens at dusk/night, not quite as noticable as that great pic you took showing how dark it actually gets.

Hope all the rest gets addressed. Thanks for keeping the info updated and letting us know. I was going to play around with my mirrors, etc. this weekend just in case. Now, smooth sailing... :)
