She can take a beating…

Poor Bessie got rear ended by a Kia today. The girl that hit us was probably doing about 30, and naturally on her phone. No air bags deployed, but I am feeling it in my shoulders and back.

For as hard as she hit us, there seems to be relatively little damage. Looks like the tow hitch took the brunt. Driver side bumper is popped out.
I actually felt bad for her while we were waiting for the police. She had her dad on FaceTime and he was screaming at her pretty good.

Can’t wait to see how long and how much it costs to fix her. At least the girl has good car insurance.

Hope the slight shoulder stuff works out quickly for you.

As for Bessie: There will be a lot of the sensor stuff damaged in the bumper system, make sure that gets captured by whomever does the work. That's the usual expense these days when anything touches the bumper systems. Amazing to see so little damage but get a big cost factor on it. Also the tow receiver is welded as part of the frame, did you look under that cover? Probably looks brand new given that type of build.

The girl is lucky the damage was just the front end. Normally something that small hitting a tank, they fall to pieces...

P.S. - I'm jealous of the amount of Blue I can see in your finish, mine, continues to remain almost black versus what your pic shows

And then, just like that, the passenger rear chrome came off. 😳 Shocked to see its basically just glued on. No clips.

Thankfully saw it flapping in the breeze on a side road, before I got to the highway.

Hopefully that's it on trim.

Thanks for the pictures, it answers a question we've had on this forum: Water coming out of the window trim. I see slots in the surrounding gasket/mounting area. Looks like they made a water tray, then lifted it up and put it on the rear liftgate. Does it look like the paint was properly done through the window trim/frame area? Wondering if there is any exposed metal areas to rust, etc.

I don’t see any rust. The paint looks good so far around the window.

I had contemplated removing all the crime and doing chrome black paint instead of a wrap delete. The fact that none of it is clipped in (apparently) makes that less appealing now….

Glad to know the paint seems intact, especially after taking a smack on the backside. Makes changing anything a bit less urgent, still, drives me nuts having all the water held until you move the liftgate, etc.

@Back2Jeep what was the final outcome on the damage to your ride? Did it stay smaller as you thought or did the full electronics get replaced in the rear bumper area, etc.?

finally got it to the shop 10/10. They should have the final parts this week And im hoping to get it back Friday, but realistically probably Monday. The estimate doesn’t include any sensors, but they did say they found more damage when they actually removed the bumper last Monday. So we’ll see, I guess, when I ge5 it back.

Lol-sorry, it’s been a crazy week. It came out amazing. Caliber did a great job. Looks brand new. Sensors work perfectly. They also detailed the whole vehicle. I’m very happy, and the work is warrantied as long as I own the car.
