Dealership Pick Up Inspection Checklist

Hey Folks,

I’ve been trying to capture all the issues that have been observed by those of you kindly sharing the details and lucky enough already have their unit. I don’t expect having my build delivered anytime soon as I just ordered in on 12/30. Nevertheless, I’m trying to create a checklist of items to review when my lucky day comes and it’s time to pick up my GWIII from the dealer… a FAT Factory Acceptance Test, if you will. Sharing it herein for the benefit of others and also for feedback or other items to inspect that I may have missed. Thank you! Don

Dealer Receipt Checklist

  • AMP Recall - Battery Drain
  • Active Airbag Recall
  • OTA Updates
  • Seat Heat Front and rear
  • Rear Differential (drive in all 4x4 settings)

Hey, Don~

GREAT GREAT way to keep everyone (current and future) - focused on the growing list!

Trim is a big one for me. Note the lineup of all chrome pieces. I posted a pic a while ago (here again for reminder)
OTA updates MAY not be done by dealer. BUT - make sure when your dealer delivers to you - and plugs you into Wagoneer Client Services - your information is correct. Make sure they show you how to connect YOUR vehicle to YOUR home wifi. So, when you are idle or at your house - and an OTA pushes - it will capture.
There is another recall coming in February - to do with backup camera (I posted thread about this too) https://www.autoevolution.com/news/...agoneers-over-backup-camera-issue-178733.html
Be sure to check your build sheet/window sticker for ALL options
If you have rear entertainment system - make sure dealer gives you the Amazon remote controls (one for each side)
If you ordered, or your build sheet has the all-weather mats, make sure they are in your vehicle. Why? They're $400 to order from MOPAR. Expensive 😂

Wishing you luck as you inch closer to your delivery! Good luck! Post pictures!

This is just not right. I sometimes take delivery of a car in December and dont check AC until June or July. I've had Jeeps in the past and currently own a 19 Wrangler and never did I have such a checklist nor did I have problems like this list. How is this supposed to emulate a luxury brand with look and feel if you cant even trust the QA of the manufacturer to test these things prior to delivering a $100k plus vehicle.

So we've had our WS3 for about 10 weeks now and we are seeing a large number of what I would describe as software issues. I'm curious if others are seeing these issues or others.

These include but are not limited to:
  1. Media system loses sound and can't be recovered without power cycling the truck (not just the media unit)
  2. Heated seats turn off in about 3 minutes for driver and 7 minutes for passenger
  3. Car Play loses connection randomly and doesn't want to reconnect til we power cycle the truck or cycle between connecting as audio device and car play device. This seems to occur most frequently when using the maps/nav feature of carplay which is very frustrating since you lose your route guidance.
  4. Media screen flashes up a snapshot of a nav screen showing a previously followed route when Car Play gets a text message coming in.
  5. Nav system which should stay in sync between main media screen, drivers info center, and HUD but doesn't. Information on the driver screen will not show the same info (turn details) as the main screen. First pic shows driver screen indicating left turn, nav screen indicating right turn. Second picture shows driver screen indicating "reached destination" but nav screen showing several miles to go.
  6. Media screen shows "No internet signal" when car is turned on even though we just had a standard SXM station on previously. Have to cycle through sources to get it to come back.
  7. Media screen sometimes powers up with an Alexa message as seen in third pic. We have alex setup but don't actively use it in the truck and sure why it powers up into Alex when the media unit it set to resume to the source/channel it had at power down.
I believe #2 was supposed to have a fix in January, but not heard anything else about it.

Updated list for recent members to use as well. Every one has been addressed with TSBs and CSBs, however if you are purchasing a vehicle that as already on the lot, the Dealer may not have done or been able to do those fixes. I combined the two lists above so we can keep a single post to print out and take with us when we get our new vehicles. 😁

Dealer Receipt Checklist
  • AMP Recall TSB completed - Battery Drain
  • Active Airbag Recall TSB completed
  • OTA Updates - Check for latest version in UConnect
  • Seat Heat Front and rear (all settings at least 5 minutes each)
    • Heated seats turn off in about 3 minutes for driver and 7 minutes for passenger
  • Rear Differential (drive in all 4x4 settings)
    • Air Suspension (grinding)
  • UConnect CarPlay Continuity
  • Windshield warp
  • Fire TV Entertainment System (make sure remotes work)

  • Check all trim for alignment (interior and exterior)
  • Check back up camera

Here is the Drivetrain Control Module Update for vehicles with a 2-speed transfer case. The TSB is for vehicles that were manufactured before February 25, 2022. You can check the manufactured date by opening the driverside door. For those who ordered are receiving them after 2/25, the factory should have updated the module. But double-check away. Use the list above that @Costa made; it's detailed and terrific. Those who want to pick one off the dealer's lot make sure all updates have been done BEFORE you sign on the dotted line.

Note: I haven't posted a PDF file before in this forum, so I'm unsure if you can see it. Let me know if you can't see it, and I'll post a link later in the day.

Here is a Wagoneer quick start guide in a PDF which you can download and review.

Awesome PDF, works like a charm. Great little guide too, cuts through the monstrous manual in a hurry. 😁

Good point, but what’s the actual fix for that? I saw a YouTube video where the alignment was bad and even the GRAND WAGONEER lettering and badges weren’t applied straight or consistent.
Door, lights, hoods are all adjustable. Manufacturing is relatively imprecise. While one batch of steel may stamp this way, the next batch may be slightly different. It all gets tweaked in the mountings if it can't be fixtures and welded to the right shape.

Also, check real wood interior trim and dash for scratches and nicks.
Check passenger screen for working order.
Check rims for face scratches and nicks on tires incurred during transport.
Check exterior paint and clear lens for scratches and swirl marks.
Open the hood and check the motor oil level plus all fluid levels.
Open/close the rear hatch from the roof switch and use your foot for opening (easy access).
Check folding mirrors for open/close position.
Check carpet for dirt, and stains under mats, especially driver side and from the 2nd row back that the edges of carpet don't show at side panels.

Hello,

I wanted to discuss strategy and approach regarding this checklist because I am a "details guy" and want some of your take on how this plays out and I am not sure how much leverage we have.

Take me for example, I have a GW3 arriving this month that I ordered back in late December. I have EP pricing (about $9000 off) and since I have ordered it, the price has gone up by almost $5000. That means the dealer is looking at my unit wishing I cancel my order because they could get almost $15,000 more by selling it off the lot to someone else.

What is the play if I find numerous or even a few issues per the checklist? Do I tell them I am not signing the contract until everything is repaired? Or is this more about documenting the issues upfront but we go ahead with the deal? I am afraid they'll tell me to take a hike and sell the unit to someone else who is less picky.

Negotiating is a part of my profession and it comes down to BATNA (Best Alternative to a negotiated Agreement). My BATNA is to either not buy a GW3 and stick with my Jeep Grand Cherokee or order a new one that would cost $5000 more at this point. Both undesirable for me.

The dealership's BATNA is to sell the unit for $15000 more. Ideal for them, not ideal for me.

I am all for figuring out a way to get an 100,000 mile extended warranty out of this situation if many issues are discovered (hopefully not) but I am just not seeing the mechanics and the lever points.

Let's brainstorm on strategy. Thank you

Don

Really good question, especially considering that going to the back of the line not only costs more but could be another 6 months wait.

My thoughts are: if it's only minor cosmetic issues, I'd accept delivery as long as the dealer was onboard with having them fixed. If it was anything related to drivability/safety, I'd bail and go back to buying a Grand Cherokee.

@Dwagoneer Great idea!!

My intent with the check list is to find/write down every item. That get written on the actual contract as items to be fixed before I sign. Since the Dealer will get paid for his shop labor by Stellantis for the items, actually a good thing for them to fix it all. Then per the WCS commitment from Stellantis I expect the vehicle will get delivered since we signed the actual contract. They can test drive to my home, and if they are afraid, then fix what scares them.

As for barter/pricing, every deal should have a walk away determined in advance. The key in my mind is always working to communicate my requirements to them and getting their requirements on the table. Then it is a matter of working through them by priority or if I know the other requirement is a killer to me, saving time and walking.

So with that, writing down what you must have, prefer to have and what's nice to have is a good start. The basic agreement was already laid out at order time, even though it is subject to either party changing it. We should be able to build a list of items for discussion. To start Stellantis tipped their hand on product movement. Incentives for Wagoneers first, now GWs means the slowdown has happened. Why?

A few items I'm sure, like
  • gas prices skyrocketing and not looking back
  • Social media/word on early build challenges for another
  • Seasonal swing, weather is in Spring mode in most States, and getting better each passing week
    • SUVs no longer hold the demand/appeal as they do in Winter
  • Dealer greed trying to jack up prices hurt, so Stellantis raised MSRP prices to appease Dealer demands
    • Not working so well now with the increase, hence the 'incentives' in an attempt to get the original Market researched prices
  • Dealers are starting to get inventory on the lots
    • That causes grumbles too since they pay interest each month a vehicle is on the lot
Depending on geography, competition is starting back up.

What do Dealers have as leverage for us?
  • Emotional desire for the new item.
Since I have 18 CDJR dealerships in my nearby area (even more if I expand to 1.5 hour drive), no real leverage locally. Your area will vary. Given the price range, I only buy the depreciating asset when the price works for me, not the dealer. Even when I bought other brand vehicles with only 2 dealerships nearby, I wouldn't do it without the right price. It is, after all, purely a depreciating item to own. Fun, want it, excited to get it like all of us. We work hard, enjoy the fruits when possible. Still, inanimate object in the scheme of things.

Any other things we think the Dealer has as leverage?

Any items of Barter if you find things on the checklist? The extended warranty is a great start. Other things of value to suggest?
