2022 Jeep Wagoneer & Grand Wagoneer Specifications -

Does anyone know the height of the rear cargo door entry or the height of the rear cargo area with the seats folded?

Also is the tow rating independent from the payload? For example if you are at the maximum payload of 1450 lb, can you still tow up to the maximum towing capacity?

I believe that it is with one caveat. The tongue weight needs to be accounted for.
E.g. if you have 600lb trailer tongue weight then the payload would be 850lb and the trailer can still be the 9850lb max, provided that both together do not go over the GCWR which is between 15,000lb to 16,600lb depending on model

Thank you, that is helpful!
Can you just assume the tongue weight is 10% of trailer weight, or does it have to be measured?
We got a new boat this year that is 1000 lbs heavier which our 2011 Yukon Denali with a 6.2 L V8 (tow rated for 8100 lb) is struggling to tow. The trailer and boat together weigh 7500 lb (without gas).
So if the tongue weight is 10% or 750 lbs, we would only have about 700 lbs left over for people and cargo?
But this would all this be within the GCWR for a GE Series 1?

The tongue weight should be measured (weighed) with a boat there is little you can do to change it other then a weight distribution hitch.
If the tongue weight is 750lb then your calculation is correct and still within the allowed gross combined weight.

I'm curious, why did the Yukon Denali struggle to tow? Power or squat?
I have a 24' Power Catamaran that with the trailer is the same weight as your bigger boat and I towed it with my 2019 Grand Cherokee without any problem, the air suspension leveled the Jeep and the 5.7 Hemi had more then enough power....

We also have the air suspension which keep the rig level. Does well on flat highway, but engine struggles to maintain highway speeds steeper Interstate grades. We have some grades on way to Norris Lake, TN where I had to keep it in third gear and was managing 30 mph. This was with the cargo area pretty full but only 350 lb total passenger weight.
I found the specs for our 2011 Yukon AWD WITH 6.2 L V8: Trailer Wt: 8100, Payload 1622, GVWR: 7300, GCWR; 14,000.
So it does sound like GW payload is not any greater, and the GCWR is only 1000 lb more.
I am thinking that the 10,000 lb tow rating is more a product of the strength of the connection of the hitch to the frame, than the torque and horsepower of the 6.4 L V8; and worried that I won’t see much improvement in towing performance, especially with a full car!
Where did you find the GCWR data for the Grand Wagoneer?

I found 2011 Yukon Denali AWD has max HP of 403 @5700
And max Torque 417 @ 4300.
If the GVWR is 7300 lb and you subtract the max payload of 1622, you should get the approximate vehicle weight =5480 lb
So the GW with the 6.4 should be more powerful but will be moving a heavier vehicle.
Do you think I should see significantly improved towing up grades? Or should I expect similar performance issues, especially with a loaded vehicle? Did I read something about electric boost motors on the GW?

All the data is from the GW owner's manual.
First you are looking at 16,000 GCW vs 14,000 for the Yukon, that is a big difference.
Second and more importantly the 6.4 has a lot more torque and power, and is mated to the best transmission money can buy today, unless you are getting a hypercar. The ZF 8 speed is a shifting powerhouse that Jeep tuned to perfection.
I had a Grand Cherokee SRT with that engine transmission combo and it was unstoppable. I towed with the SRT, with the trailhawk that has the 5.7, and with a dodge durango R/T that has the 5.7 (both have the ZF 8 speed) they all had no problem with a boat and trailer that are close to 8000lb and I never felt I lack power.

Also, these are equipped with a 3.92 rear differential. You could use RAM trucks towing guide to get a better understanding of how gearing affects towing and how they can get so many different tow ratings while using the same motors and frames thruout the range.

So should be much better towing performance with the improvement in torque, HP, transmission, rear differential and the 16,000 vs 14,000 GCVW. And likely the best option in a full size SUV!
Did you hear anything about 4 wheel electric boost motors, or was I remembering a different vehicle?

Someone on FB was mentioning back on Tues that a dealer told him the manufacturer has run out of parts for the HD tow package. Supposedly, they are either going to wait for parts and delay the vehicles, or build the vehicles without the HD package.

Has anyone else heard this?

That says with the 3.21 4WD towing is 10,000lbs, but my owners manual says 3.21 can only tow 7,000lbs. What the heck is going on?
