Wifi Hotspot

Hello,

Does anyone know if there is a way to hook up the phone to the cars wifi ? I know you can purchase ATT internet service for the onboard WIFI in the car. But i am wondering if you can tether your phones data to the cars wifi.
So when you connect to cars wifi it is using your phones data.

I'm not sure but I think your phone could be used as a hot spot. The only problem I can think of is going to be your phone's reception to cellular plus your phone would have to be on top of the dashboard to get the strongest signal. Any lower the signal starts to degrade.

I know i can use our phone as a hotspot, and it comes with my phone plan. The only issue is that it runs hotter and then drains the battery, not a problem in this car since there is USB ports everywhere.
But it would be a cool feature whether with apple car play or android auto to take your cellular connection and basically "bridge" it to the cars own wifi. I think those features run of wifi anyway, i will have to try some things out see if i can find anything.
But like you had mentioned it would have to be out in the open in the car to get the best signal when using phone hotspot.

That would be awesome if we could bridge it thru the car system, like a home network per se.

Yup exactly my thoughts. Mostly everyone has unlimited data on their phones at this point. I mean each of our phones has that plus 22GB hotspot per phone which gets throttled down if there is network congestion once you pass the 22GB.
The hotspot plan from ATT for unlimited data is fairly cheap as well for the vehicle. But a bridge would be awesome

Wondering if anyone ever figured out how to bridge your mobile phone data as a hotspot for the Uconnect system?

using the rear TVs eat a gang of data... yesterday it used over 1GB per hour for a single TV. You might be able to adjust quality down to save... if you have unlimited it doesn't matter but if you get slowed down after 22GB that might not be as much as you think in a months time if you use it a lot or go on a trip.

I did sign up for unlimited data on car because we have a trip coming up and it seems you can pick up and cancel as needed... so if you do have a longer trip you could just pay for that month and drop it... so it seems!!!! (or a whole year for like $200)

I decided to pay the $200 and sign up for the year. I don’t think you get refunded if you cancel though. I guess if you are unsure sign up for monthly. I too thought about hooking up to my mobile hotspot but I really didn’t want an extra step. I looked at it this way, we paid so much for all the features and benefits, don’t cheap out on the connectivity. Pay for the service and move on.
