Oil Change on a GWS3 with 6.4 Liter Engine

Back at the end of July, I took Patty for LOF. Mileage at that time was 4988 with zero left in oil life. I know that the factory uses Pennzoil full synthetic at 0-40 weight.
The manual says full synthetic API doughnut type oil. We get five oil changes for five years compliments from the factory.
Pennzoil is the recommended brand for our vehicles, even if they (company) don't say it.

Okay, now Patty's mileage is 6347, and the oil life reads 75%. Driven 1,359 miles and at 75%???? WTF???
Something is not correct.

As for me, I'm a Mobile 1 full synthetic kind of guy and have been for many years. I used to get 10,000 miles before an oil change was needed. Sh*t, I've reached 15,000 a couple of times also.

Mobil 1 website that I looked up has no info for our vehicle. I did find 2 for Mobil 1, ESP, a European engine with 6.4 or newer Corvettes and Camaros that call for 0W-40 oil or FS for European engine 6.4 and Porches.

Before I rack my head against a wall to diagnose, my question is, what are you getting in mileage-wise before you need an oil change?

I haven't cracked the 4k mark just yet. I do wonder about the Mobil 1 (ditto on exclusive for all vehicles). Interesting they have a 0W-40W now, worth hearing from the owners of prior or other 392s and what they use...

In my series three GW the Oil Change calculator seems to be a 1% change for every 70 miles.

After three weeks of observation, I am getting 62 miles per minus 1% of the oil percentage change.

I also noticed last week on a trip to Philadelphia that while I was going 80 mph for almost the entire trip, the antifreeze temperature went up to 225 degrees and the oil temperature went to 238 degrees. :unsure: I noticed the fans kick in and out, and she dropped to 202 degrees.
I am giving Patty 93 octane the entire time I got her and thinking, is this to spec the heat generated at this speed?

I'm heading to Florida next week and will keep my eyes on this.

I spoke with Wagoneer cust svcs on another issue, and a refund was issued for being out for four months and mention to her I would be calling in and requesting help getting specs from them.

Interesting, I'll pay closer attention to my temps, I use the dash myself that has all the gauges but have only looked for variances out of 'norm'.

What brand of 93? I'm starting to guess that a partnership with Shell is there for fine tuning the engine, given the Pennzoil Platinum (owned by Shell) push from Stellantis.

I use Exxon 99% most of the time. In NJ, it was Sunoco on I95 when I left for Philadelphia.
It caught me by surprise the high temp. Been watching the gauges for mostly 3 weeks, and for the most part, antifreeze averaged 208 degrees and oil temp 218 degrees.

I must say, I'm not sure if it's me or not, but the truck seems to be a tad smoother to drive with Shell for the past month. A couple of long trips (hundreds each way) and the acceleration is the same as Sunoco but the trans shifting seems a touch more in sync with RPM transitions. Gas mileage is about the same (.2 mpg better w/Shell). That's so small it could be weather related or my driving, I call it a wash.

Mine went of right at about 6k miles. I’m at about 9700 now give or take and it’s showing around 50%. Had Jeep Wave free oil change at 6k.
Mine ended up doing the same, right at 6K. Had a heads up about 100miles in advance, made the apointment and all went well. I'll see what happens in 3k more miles.

Just changed mine again. Didnt get a warning until 12,250. Naturally, on the the way back of a 500 mile road trip (which is better than on the way up!)

Interesting, seems the mileage is hitting it about every 6k after the change. That's the recommended interval, so it seems the alert ahead of time is what you'd like to see instead of last second. Can't blame you there, I like mine when it's a few hundred away, but not 500 as it can get tiring hearing/seeing it every start up until the apointment. So to me, a plus column overall.

Modern oil life monitors are not simply tracking miles/time to determine remaining oil life. They take into account the type of driving, in particular, the time the oil spends at full operating temperature (FOT). We all know that short drives where the oil doesn't reach FOT are harder on the oil than longer drives with sustained operating at FOT. Water/contaminants are not burned-off until the oil is at FOT. Thus, it makes sense that miles are added back onto the remaining life when you switch your driving pattern to include more time at FOT.
