Rear differential

Yes! Twice now - but they cannot determine "root cause" despite finding discoloration in the fluid and metallic debris! UGH!

Has anyone else had their rear differential go out? Mine did today at 800 miles. Being replaced.
Mine hasn’t completely gone out but it seems like the differential is becoming a common issue, among other things. 😡 Mine was making a moaning/binding noise that went away when dealer service cleared and reset the computer. It is now back, and I have an appointment next week. On the WagoneerFans site, a member said this in a known issue now, and he has an open STAR case with MOPAR regarding the problem. STAR case S2121000019. I’m going to assume it’s related, and it might be worth mentioning to dealer service so they can look into it. The growing list of issues is making the purchase very regrettable…

Update: Engineering came to my dealer to push out a "test" of a differential software patch (made it sound like this is the one in development for push this quarter). I haven't got vehicle back yet - but they are reporting "good" results. Will advise and post tech notes when I have them for others.

My GWS3 went in Monday to get a software patch to fix the intermittent "service 4WD" error I was receiving. Engineer came up from Jeep to apply the patch - completely fried the drivetrain module. Apparently, this has only happened in 2 other cases of applying the update. No replacement modules in stock, waiting for assembly plant to get one to the dealer. Only issue I have had so far, but it is a little concerning that it happened. 2 of the first 5 GW's my dealer has sold has had the Service 4WD/differential issues.

WOW! disconcerting for sure. Now I'm paranoid. I'm hoping to get my unit back today - following the engineer who came and "pushed" the software patch! Keep us advised @mgrossi31

How much is Stellantis paying all of us first year buyers to "test" their new vehicle. Glad it's getting fixed Skip but this is ridiculous.
Side note - if you haven't joined the Wagoneer or Grand Wagoneer Facecrook groups you may want to. Lots of good info. Only downside is a lot of spam from dealers.

I agree Stellantis should take care of we first year customers essentially testing their product. Take Infiniti when they decided to break into the Large Lux SUV market in 2004.

I traded in two Durangos when I purchased the first year Infiniti QX56 (now badged QX80). They had one item, ONE item as a problem. The brakes wore out faster than they predicted. The first thing they did of course was recall all of them and replace the brakes with stronger roters. Then when ANY of the first year owners traded in for the next QX they GAVE the owners 10K from Infiniti, not the dealer. I was the first at my dealer, shocked him as I'd already negotiated my trade in plus the new vehicle price. He came out, showed me the credit Infiniti had on the books and said, deal is a deal, take it plus the 10k. He had what he negotiated for profit, I had a great deal. It basically saved the depreciation that happens when you drive off the lot, and that equity rolled into the next and the next. I've owned QX56/QX80's ever since. Even got a Mini-Me for my wife (QX60).

Stellantis should learn a very valuable way to generate repeat business from Infiniti's approach when they broke into the Market. They could even make an advertizing campaign about it when they roll out next year's version, brag about what WCS means at Stellantis, what they did for all the first year customers who 'believed in the Stellantis brand', etc. Heck I could write that campaign and I'm not in marketing!

Same boat. Been to service 5 times in 3 months. Towed twice.

can you please send a link to that TSB? I just started having the same “heavy/growling” sound on sharp turns. Feels like it’s in fulltime 4WD.

Wagoneer Client Services is well aware of the issue, as are the dealers. Mine went in yesterday and was done in under a half hour. If you give them a call and get a case number and get a service scheduled it should be back in your hands quickly.

Just a heads up if you’re not throwing codes and it isn’t making the noise at the time you bring it in, they won’t perform the upgrade. Mine has been doing it intermittently. It’ll growl and moan, but then it fades. By the time you make an appointment it’s sort of cleared up. I brought it in yesterday as it was happening hoping someone could come hear it on the spot, and they didn’t have someone to go for a ride so they could hear it. Then I have to make an appointment and they take it out and don’t hear it. Very frustrating. I showed them the bulletin and they just told me that they can’t perform it because there are no codes and they can’t reproduce it, so they wouldn’t get reimbursed for it. And Wagoneer Client Services keeps referring me back to the dealer service also. They can’t give me any sort of clarity about the issue. It’s like I just have to wait for something major to finally happen before they do anything. I have a 7 year old and an 8 week old, so it makes me extremely anxious driving sometimes.

On top of that the heated seats keep turning off, and they can’t seem to fix that either. Module has been replaced 2 times now. And my driver side mirror has a warp in it that they also can’t fix. They ordered a new mirror and it had the same warp. They said they opened a STAR case but I haven’t heard anything yet. Good thing is my head unit/nav issues seem to have been fixed by UConnect, although it took forever. Just kind of waiting for that to fail again lol. I’ve had more issues with this 75k plus vehicle than I’ve had in all my previous cars combined. Very frustrating.

Heated seats are a known issue and will be fixed someday. As for the drivetrain-- I would raise hell about getting your updates. Similar situation with young kids.

Ironically I just got word from client services about the module update, so hopefully i can get that handled soon.
